“A jury has awarded a former employee of Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles more than $1 million in damages after he sued the popular restaurant chain alleging racial discrimination and wrongful termination. Daniel Beasley, a black man, filed a racial discrimination and wrongful-termination suit against the soul food chain that’s popular with celebrities, including Snoop Dogg and Larry King. ‘It’s owned by an African American owner, but he gives full authority to the Hispanics to run it,’ Beasley said. According to Beasley’s lawsuit, managers at the restaurant on Pico Boulevard harassed him for being black and gave preferential treatment to Latino employees, including better schedules. The grandfather from Compton says he complained to human resources and the company’s owner, but nothing was done. He was later fired for what he says was retaliation.”

Fuck this place! I don’t care how good the food is or if the owner of the restaurant is black, we have to stop supporting those who don’t support and have love for us. It’s that simple.

    I’ve been in search for an Attorney in Florida or anyone that can handle a situation of racial discrimination against a landlord and employee’s who discriminated against me over my term of residency while other blacks fled the complex thus telling me “Oh your moving in here? They’re racial especially that manager, just wait until things started happening to me I will realize what they meant. Surely, seeing me upset one day the same guy said: Don’t say I didn’t warn you and so on trying to avoid his comments as well as others I’m was in disbelief of managers actions. Turning my lights off unknown to me the same week I paid my turn on service fee, tampering with my electrical account information thus by changing everything out into another’s persons name, telling a Supervisor of that electric co: I’m a liar and don’t reside there so don’t exchange info with me nor correspond, her claiming I cost her thousands of dollars to fly in a private electrician from out f State as I sat in my Apt for him to rewire it and another meter to correct the matter (None of this ever happened) when only a white man in a beat up private contractor from Fl came and said this complex is messed up using the (F) word. When her boss got hold of this matter she told me that he told her if I ever find an Attorney to report this or any other stuff do not call his name! It is a crime to tamper with someone’s personal information! I’ve had my mail with held from me for about 7mths unknown and found outside floor of my front door in an office envelope which the Post Office and Sheriff’s Dept said that’s mail theft but I constantly asked continuously for this mail but to no avail. One employee said Sept. maybe I gave that company the wrong address but they’ll let me know if the see any. No comment from them but that same manager said the mailman gave it to her via their assistant manager. I’ve been prohibited from having an unopened bottle of Wine while walking pass the pool area thus the same manager approached me saying: I’ll take that. It’s not allowed. There are signs posted. I’ll give it to you when you’re ready to go home and she’ll put it in the refrigerator. On labor day weekend while walking by the pool there was a hue trash can filled with Coors lite, Heineken and a variety of bottles filled to the top so I took a Pic and sent it to her. She responded quickly saying: She’s not having this and will get to the bottom of it and send notices, but nothing happened. Since then I’ve pictures of white tenants sitting by the pool with cups of beverages, beer bottles and Cigs. These ppl play beer pong and have drinking shots in he pool up to July 4th, 2015. I have been prohibited from eating in the clubhouse whereas the amenities were included, other residents, minors, non residents and employees are Caucasian, White, Hispanic /Mexican can utilize same to their convenience for parties, social gatherings, church meetings no offense and Baby showers which manager up told me she don’t want my people taking up their parking spaces. I’ve counted 5 or more cars leaving and returning thus from 25 to 50ty plus people inside to an event. I was told by the manager she will not rent to me or she’d shut down the amenities, remove the microwave, fridge etc so can no longer heat up my Caribbean food that I insult her guest with by it’s great aroma. Accosting me on 2 occasions for my food container/ and told by the assistant manager not to bring food in there. It’s okay for the Spanish employee who had his daughter eating McD’s and drinking beverage while on the computer, dropped food on floor then almost knocked her drink over. The assistant manager Caucasian/Asian told me I’m prohibited to even have it in a plastic bag which was tied. It’s insulted to me when they come with aerosol spraying in the air but claiming even though it looks delicious aka manager ain’t having it at all. The 2nd incident she accosted me from behind upon my back, reaching for my arm pulling same trying take my plate saying; Give it to me in a demeanor of demanding as I held my grip with my elbow out. I was so in shock! I’ve been chastise over use of tv’s in clubhouse, had controls taken from me and tv;s volume down to 2 not I exceeding 15 thus manager down to employees via temps has shut the t.vs off at 445 pm constantly, even the manager as I caught her. Why? Her response as others because there’s nobody here? Well who the hell am I? Other’s Caucasians etc are allowed and given use of tv controls. Managers response as well as all employees/temps they have no control over them nor the undisclosable hours kept on property which has numerous of cameras but they see me every time I enter. There the harassment begins and extended over to about 11mths this August. The employees past thru not uttering a word nor about any filth left behind. I’ve been told many times by a resident white cop always that it’s closing time ^:30 by Clubhouse/10:00p.m pool but not for others who stay until 1 a.m and after. I was told I can’t swim in shorts & Tee, Don’t use the Grill again without foil leaving voice message on my phone and explaining again in person. When I pointed out a white old guy using it no foil to staff and assistant manager they loked for several days maybe 3x and responded they don’t know him. I said he told me he doesn’t even live here, just visiting his pregnant daughter and been staying there over a week. The complex manager and assistant manager offered me several rented Apts to try make up for renting over and over my initial Apt, stating they had no knowledge I needed a 1st floor but rented about half dozen 1st floor Apts to Caucasians up to end of Dec 2014. I’ve been in hospital for Chest Pains stress test series 2x and on Hbp medications, now more extensive and 3 versions 3x a day for 5mths. One complex refused taking my application after a derogatory rental report from assistant manager, when I asked her the means of it she smiled saying :Awe is there anything she can do to fix it? What the hell! I reported to manager who apologized declaring that she filled one out with a positive rating but cant find the copy she never kept months ago. She said she’d re-rent to me. when I asked her for a lease to sign she said: I just said that to make you feel good. Now take this form she positively filled out as I offered her a copy she refused saying anything she wrote was to make me feel good now remove it and leave her office firmly, thus not wanting to see that or hear of it by no one, not even the assistant manager. That form was contrary to one received by verbal denied complex. On Feb. 11th, 2015 manager calls me in her glee to renew my lese for any extended time with the least increase. I agree as she says let’s forget about all the hog wash but read the lease careful because we’ve been trying to get you down here a whole month to avoid a court hearing. I agree so she’d have her attorney draw it up in 30 minutes faxed. bout 50 min to 1hr after she calls back to renig on verbal agreement saying- All documentation I have is liable for suit against them so she changed her mind on the lease so get out and find a house to live in where ever I please in Florida! The assistant manager told me they don’t want to hear of this discrimination crap! Just leave! I know she just proposed earlier in the month to make me as comfortable as the staff if I just wipe the slate and forget all of this, but when she kept giving me keys to view rented apts I knew it was a bribe to let them off the hook! The other complex said they’d never received a form via fax satisfactory or any as manager said. The overall experience a judge told me that she read some documents I had in a file #discrimination/ Harassment/pics and quoted: Feb.12, 2015. She applauds me well for keeping such file well noted with documentation’s so thick thus will benefit you in the future should you proceed. Thanks for paying your dues tremendously and nothing held against me but a lot more people need to take a page out of your book! They need to stop running and stand up. I told the judge I as verbally rudely abused by manager finger pointing in my face and if I was hoodie I would’ve bit her ass, excuse my expression. Judge said right you shouldn’t have to go through that or any so good luck! P.S- Please I need a good Attorney because I’m about to go back in the hospital, staying with family temporarily and going to reside by a friend because according to FL laws it may take up to 6mths, more or never to get an application accepted.     You’d never believe in America this would happen t you! I’ve lost about 20lbs went from size 20W to 16W and my shoulder length hair was ding, breaking/damaged so I just had to cut it above my neck.I ‘m devastated and never thought i’d be afraid of a white woman this manger whom had me in tears numerous f times. The assistant manager agreed with me several times about her inappropriateness towards me but she too with holding my mail for 7mths ain’t make her look pretty neither thus tricking me to think she’d help me even up to August stating they love to keep me as a tenant thus know all that I’ve been through with them is so much and devastating to me. My patio had an extensive crack, cracks radiating extensively and in variations in the base floor, the building as shaking at every rain #thunderstorm which I mentioned but it was as if she looked right opposite direction or around the office. I was just hospitalized 4days for swollen foot from moving stuff and walking miles to the bus stop. My pressure was up 214/13 about that. I have to go back to have meds administered to me via Ivy to keep my pressure down. I’ll go in to emergency room 15th or 16th when I return to Tampa FL. Embarrassed but this is what the manager did when I went to their opening not receiving notice of same. As I entered the door I asked her why? Her smiling widely stepped over me saying excuse me, she really haven’t the time to answer an question but previously she was talking and laughing with a Caucasian when I walked in. An overall explanation was they ran out of paper at my door or a temp was hired and he skipped my Apt. On that note I saw several people with notices on their door but not mine. One day i checked every Apt a gold flyer then hard a knock across the hall and saw the assistant manager with the flyers by the Indians Apt. When i opened my door she’s Asian assistant manager curled them up and bowed her head away after batting her eyes as I closed my door.This is hurricane season. I have to relocate until I’m accepted, get new clothes to fit me, shoes, sneakers and my stomach has been so irritated it’s like I have to wean myself back to healthy. It’s starting all over again. I gave key to my storage to a guy who was living in a hotel for years that if he needed anything to help himself because God will look over me. This article helped me to understand not to be pushed around, discriminated, thrown out, humiliated, verbally or physically abused by racism! P.S-God doesn’t give you more than you can bear. I lave all up to “GOD”.

    I have made it a point in light of this lawsuit to do some snooping and visit all the Roscoes restaurants and I have discovered, yes even after this lawsuit that there is definitely an apparent racial divide, especially in the Pico location where this man was terminated. I am happy that he was able to prove what has proven to be very difficult cases to win (racial discrimination). It looks like his evidence was overwhelming and the jury awarded him appropriately based on that evidence. Even though Roscoes has a right to appeal to a higher court it looks like they only risk delving out more money to Beasley in interest and attorney fees. Looks like they should pay the judgement and move on, hopefully to improve the standards and work environment for their employees moving forward and view this as a lesson and wake up call as to what’s the right thing to do in the work place.
