“There is a big sign on Highway U.S. 80 between Montgomery and Selma, Alabama, in Lowndes County. One can see it, driving west. It has the picture of a black panther on it and the words: ‘PULL THE LEVER FOR THE BLACK PANTHER AND GO ON HOME.’ This was a reminder to vote on November 8, 1966, and to vote for the candidates of the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, whose symbol is the black panther.”
