“The potential for plant diffusion, therefore, whether by accident or design, lay well within the range of African navigational science. But what of the science that produced the plants themselves? How could an African cultivated cotton intermarry with an American wild cotton (as the chromosomes clearly show) as early as 3,500 B.C.? Did Africans cultivate plants that early? A look at the most recent archeological discoveries in African agriculture provides the answer to that question.”
