“First of all, the assumption underlying these questions — that Africans did not develop writing systems — is a myth. There is evidence that probably half a dozen scripts were invented and used by Africans before the holocaust, although many of their manuscripts perished in the sack of Alexandria, the razing of Timbuctoo, and the burning of the Moorish documents in the squares of Granada on the order of Cardinal Ximenez.”
